Alfred
Hitchcock……Who???
A thriller could be a novel,
play, or movie with an exciting plot, typically involving crime or espionage or
a person, thing, or experience that thrills. Thrillers heavily stimulate the
viewer's moods such as a high level of anticipation,
ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, anxiety, suspense, excitement, tension, and terror.
The first thriller movie
created was by Alfred Hitchcock (‘Safety Last’ 1923). This involved a young
all-American boy doing a daredevil stunt off the side of a skyscraper. Alfred
Hitchcock is considered as the founding forefather of the thriller genre. In
1926 Hitchcock made his early silent thriller film ‘The Lodger’, a suspenseful
Jack-the-Ripper story-based movie, which received remarkable responses, leading
it to become nominated as one of the top 10 movies of its time.
Hitchcock also made the thriller
movie ‘Psycho’, which is an all-time classical thriller movie, building up
suspense and a huge adrenaline rush. The 1960’s American launched Hitchcock’s
career into the top spot of the best thriller movie director of his time.
