What is a Thriller

What is a Thriller...Hmm???

A thriller could be a novel, play, or movie with an exciting plot, typically involving crime or espionage or a person, thing, or experience that thrills. Thrillers heavily stimulate the viewer's moods such as a high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, anxiety, suspense, excitement, tension, and terror.
An example of a classic thriller is the German thriller ‘M’, involving a child killer. This movie was based on a real life killer named Peter Kurten (known as the ‘vampire of Dusseldorf’). Examples of modern day thrillers would be ‘Paranormal activity’ or ‘Scream’.
The plot line of a genuine normal thriller is one that builds up the tension, which usually arises when the character(s) is placed in threatening circumstances, escaping seems impossible. Life is endangered, usually because the main character is unintentionally or unknowingly involved in a dangerous or deadly situation. Plots of thrillers involve characters, which come into conflict with each other, or with outside forces.
The location in most thrillers creates an atmosphere of danger and violence, such as crime and murder. Thrillers often present the world and society as dark, corrupt and hazardous.

Characters include criminals, stalkers, assassins, innocent victims (often on the run), menaced women, characters with deep dark pasts, psychotic individuals, terrorists, cops and escaped prisoners.
